Battlefield 6 Developers Slams Xbox Series S: “Less Memory than a Mid-Spec PC”
September 16, Ggamen.com — Developers of Battlefield 6 have raised serious concerns about adapting the game for the Xbox Series S. In a Kotaku interview, key technical staff revealed that limited memory on the Series S — even less than that of a typical mid-range PC — has posed significant challenges.
Memory Limitations and Optimization Efforts
Christian Buhl, Technical Director on Battlefield 6, said that about 6 to 12 months ago, the team discovered many levels were crashing on the Series S due to memory constraints. To address the issues, the devs undertook large‐scale memory optimizations. They ran all levels repeatedly, collected extensive performance data, and applied platform-specific tweaks.
These fixes didn’t just help the Series S version; they reportedly improved stability and performance across all platforms.
Performance on Xbox Series S & Frame Rates
After optimization, Battlefield 6 can now run at 60 frames per second on Xbox Series S.
The game runs at a lower rendering resolution on the S, but uses scaling/stretching techniques to hit 1080p output.
On Switch 2 Speculation & Console Support
When asked whether Battlefield 6 might come to the Nintendo Switch 2, an EA representative interrupted to clarify: the game is confirmed only for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PS5 Pro. Kotaku
What This Means for Players
Players on Series S shouldn’t expect high visual fidelity—Battlefield 6 opts for stability and frame rate over graphics on that model.
The optimizations show the dev team took Series S seriously, not just as a “lower tier” port, but as a device needing real engineering work.
Anyone hoping to see this on Switch 2 will likely have to wait longer or see what new announcements EA makes.
